Friday, June 12, 2026 | 11:00 AM Prayer | 12:00 PM Departure | Dover, Delaware

On Friday, June 12, 2026, the 250 Ride will begin from one of Delaware’s most meaningful landmarks — Christ Church on The Green in Dover. This gathering marks the official launch of the two-day reenactment of Caesar Rodney’s historic ride to Philadelphia, a journey that helped shape American independence and unite a divided colony at a pivotal moment in history.

Founded in the early 1700s, with its current structure dating to 1734, Christ Church stands as one of Delaware’s oldest houses of worship. Located at 501 South State Street on The Green, just steps from Legislative Hall, it sits at the heart of Delaware’s historic and political center. Originally designated in Dover’s 1717 town plan, The Green has long served as a gathering place for civic life and public decision-making. Today, Christ Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains an active part of First State Heritage Park. It also shares a direct connection to this story — Caesar Rodney was a parishioner and vestryman here, and a monument in the churchyard honors his enduring legacy.

“As we begin this journey, it’s important that we start in a place that represents both the weight of our history and the unity of our future,” said Ciro Poppiti. “Christ Church and The Green are not just historic landmarks — they are symbols of the decisions, sacrifices, and shared responsibility that built this country.”

The day will begin with an interdenominational reconciliation prayer at 11:00 AM, bringing the community together in a spirit of unity, reflection, and shared purpose. This moment is intended to acknowledge the full story of our nation — including the hardships endured, the voices too often left unheard, and the ongoing responsibility to move forward together. The event is free and open to the public, though space inside the church will be limited due to its intimate size, and guests are encouraged to arrive early.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience the presence of the Unheard Voices of the Revolution — reenactors representing the often overlooked individuals whose lives and contributions shaped the founding era. Their inclusion adds depth and perspective to the gathering, connecting past and present in a meaningful and personal way.

“This moment is about more than remembrance,” Poppiti added. “It’s about bringing people together — across communities and beliefs — to reflect on the full story of our nation and begin this journey forward together.”

Following the prayer, at approximately 12:00 PM, the carriage carrying Caesar Rodney will depart from The Green beside Christ Church, beginning the first leg of the reenactment journey north through Delaware. That evening, the day will conclude at Thousand Acre Farm in Middletown, where the 250 Ride Gala will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 PM.

The launch at Christ Church is more than a ceremonial starting point — it is a shared moment of reflection and renewal. Whether gathered inside the church or standing on The Green, attendees will take part in an experience that honors the past while setting the journey forward in motion.

“From this historic ground, we don’t just remember the ride,” Poppiti said. “We begin it again — together.”
