Carriage Racing Down dirt road

On June 12–13, 2026, history won’t be sitting behind glass — it will be rolling north.

The 250 Ride retraces the legendary journey of Caesar Rodney, traveling from Dover, Delaware, toward Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

More than a reenactment, the ride brings the story of independence directly into the communities along the route, emphasizing movement, participation, and historical understanding.

This journey is not only about where it ends, but about the road itself — the places passed, the people involved, and the choices that shaped a nation.

Dover: A Reckoning Before the Ride

The reenactment begins on Friday, June 12, with Caesar Rodney departing Dover around noon and heading north through the Delaware countryside.

Before the journey begins, the 250 Ride opens with a Non-Denominational Reconciliation Prayer in Dover — a moment of reflection acknowledging the enslavement of Black people and the contradiction between the ideals of liberty and the realities present at the nation’s founding.

This pause recognizes that independence was declared in a world where freedom was unevenly granted and often denied. It honors the lives, labor, and humanity of those whose voices were excluded even as a new nation was being formed. Dover serves not only as a point of departure, but as a place of truth before motion.

Through the Delaware Countryside

As the journey continues north, the route passes through rural Delaware — farmland and open roads that reflect the landscape of Rodney’s time.

After a long day of traveling, the reenactment reaches Thousand Acre Farm in the early evening, marking a meaningful pause along the route. While Rodney’s original ride was made with extraordinary urgency, the 250 Ride unfolds at a deliberate pace, allowing time for historical interpretation, public engagement, and reflection on why the journey mattered.

That evening, Thousand Acre Farm will host the 250 Ride Gala, a ticketed event set within the farm’s beautiful countryside setting where reenactors, partners, VIPs, and members of the public will gather to welcome Caesar Rodney as he arrives from the living history reenactment. Guests will enjoy an evening of wonderful food, drinks, and special moments throughout the night, with opportunities to interact with Caesar Rodney himself and the Unheard Voices of the Revolution, who will help host the celebration as the event honors the full story of the American Revolution and the individuals who helped shape it.

Tickets and more information on the 250 Ride Gala will be available soon in the Events section of the 250Ride.org website.

The reenactment honors the significance of the ride — not its speed, but its consequence.

Onward to Philadelphia

On the morning of Saturday, June 13, Caesar Rodney will continue his ride toward Philadelphia, concluding at Independence Hall — the place where Rodney’s decisive vote helped move the colonies toward independence. Along the route, additional stops and community moments are being planned, with more official stops to be announced by the 250 Ride team as we get closer to June.

The arrival serves as the culmination of the journey and a reminder that independence was uncertain, contested, and hard-won. It was shaped not only by famous moments, but by difficult decisions, urgency, and unresolved contradictions that continue to matter today.

A Living and Breathing Historic Event

The 250 Ride is designed as a living educational effort, grounded in history, rooted in community, and committed to telling a fuller story of the American founding.

This foundational journey sets the stage for the broader work of 250Ride.org: sharing historical context, elevating unheard voices, and inviting the public to engage with the Revolution not as distant history, but as a shared and ongoing story.
