Sometimes the most meaningful partnerships are built not around what makes us different, but around what brings us together.

Just days after completing the historic June 12–13 reenactment of Caesar Rodney's ride for American independence, 250Ride.org and the Delaware Italian American Foundation continued their mission of telling America's full story by partnering with Canaan Baptist Church in New Castle for two unforgettable Juneteenth evenings featuring legendary gospel artist Pastor Shirley Caesar.

The concerts, held June 18 and 19, welcomed members of the community from across Delaware for an inspiring celebration of music, culture, history, and unity. The partnership grew from the organizations' shared commitment to ensuring that America's 250th anniversary reflects the diverse people, cultures, and stories that together shaped our nation's history.

We were honored to welcome Miss Delaware Juneteenth 2026, Lihlo Flower Hollins, on Thursday and Miss Delaware Juneteenth 2025, Kayleah John, on Friday. Each evening opened with a moving performance of the Negro National Anthem, setting the tone for two nights dedicated to remembering the past while celebrating the progress that continues to shape America. Their inspiring performances beautifully complemented the spirit of the celebration.

The concerts also highlighted Canaan Baptist Church's exceptional music ministry under the direction of Minister of Music Arvis Strickling-Jones. The Men of Canaan Choir opened Thursday's celebration, while the Voices of Canaan performed Friday, with both choirs backed by the church's talented band featuring Rev. Walter Brown (organ), Wayne Jefferson and Jerome Yancey (bass), Curtis Clack (lead guitar), Rev. Joseph Blue (percussion), and Arvis Strickling-Jones (keyboard).

"It was an awesome honor to share the platform with the legendary Pastor Shirley Caesar and have the Voices of Canaan sing alongside her," said Strickling-Jones. "This is one experience that will never be forgotten."

Before Thursday evening's concert began, Ciro Poppiti III—Founder of 250Ride.org and the Delaware Italian American Foundation, as well as New Castle County Register of Wills—presented official tributes from elected officials and government leaders across Delaware recognizing Pastor Shirley Caesar's extraordinary contributions to gospel music, faith, and American culture.

The presentation served as another reminder that the celebration extended beyond music. It recognized a lifetime of influence while reinforcing the importance of preserving and honoring stories that have shaped our nation.

For 250Ride.org, the partnership with Canaan Baptist Church represents far more than hosting a successful event. It reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to ensuring America's 250th anniversary includes voices and communities that have too often been overlooked.

That philosophy has guided the organization's Unheard Voices of the Revolution initiative, which highlights individuals whose contributions helped shape America but have often received little recognition in traditional historical narratives. The Juneteenth partnership with Canaan Baptist Church naturally extended that mission by celebrating resilience, freedom, and the enduring contributions of African Americans to the fabric of the nation.

Just as Caesar Rodney's historic ride united people around the cause of liberty nearly 250 years ago, partnerships like this continue that spirit by bringing communities together through history, education, and a shared appreciation for the many voices that have shaped America.

While the concerts centered around one of gospel music's most celebrated voices, they also celebrated something even larger, the power of community organizations working together to build bridges through education, culture, and mutual respect.

As 250Ride.org continues preparing educational programming leading into America's Semiquincentennial, organizers hope partnerships like this will continue demonstrating that history is most meaningful when it invites everyone to have a seat at the table.

The Delaware Italian American Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to Pastor Shirley Caesar, Rev. Dr. Christopher A. Bullock, Pastor , Minister of Music Arvis Strickling-Jones, the Men of Canaan Choir, the Voices of Canaan, Canaan Baptist Church, and everyone who helped make these two memorable evenings possible.

Together, they demonstrated that America's story is strongest when it is shared, bringing communities together to honor the past while inspiring future generations.
