Delaware City Library: A Welcome Stop on Day Two of the Journey
After departing Thousand Acre Farm in Middletown, Delaware, on the morning of June 13, the 250Ride.org living history reenactment continued north toward Philadelphia. The first stop of the day brought Caesar Rodney, the carriage team, and the Unheard Voices of the Revolution to the Delaware City Library, where members of the community gathered to welcome the procession.
Although Delaware City is only a short distance from Thousand Acre Farm, the route required crossing the Reedy Point Bridge. Out of an abundance of care for the horses, the 250Ride.org team and our experienced horse handlers made the decision to change teams immediately after the bridge. Long, elevated bridge crossings can place additional stress on horses, and their health and well-being remained our highest priority throughout the entire two-day journey.
As the horses rested and a fresh team was harnessed, visitors had the opportunity to meet the horses up close, interact with the reenactors, and even offer the horses a few well-earned treats. The stop became a memorable moment for local families, who experienced firsthand the care and planning that went into recreating Caesar Rodney’s historic ride.
During the brief visit, Delaware LIVE News also caught up with Caesar Rodney for an interview before the reenactment resumed its journey north. With a fresh team of horses and a warm community sendoff, the carriage departed Delaware City and continued toward Philadelphia, where history awaited.
